Would you agree with the aim of retaining the open plan nature of the estate by preserving our green open amenity spaces and by supporting the aim of preserving the existing mature trees as much as is possible.?  If so please add your name to a residents group / association that could more effectively seek support from local authorities..

We have enjoyed the support and advice from Annette along with her wealth of experience and are grateful for her time, the advice and encouragement she has given us. Annette went as far as submitting a presentation bill to parliament to simplify the issues that similar sites as our own experience

We now hope to enlist the support of Michael Tomlinson MP

Mrs Annette Brook MP & Michael Tomlinson MP

Would you be add your name to show agreement with seeking  to protect and preserve the trees and open spaces of the Highland Park Estate ?

If we were to form a ‘residents group’ or ‘Estate Residents’ Association’ to enable the local authorities to see the level of support we have, would you be prepared to add your name to this  ? This group would focus on the prime aim of ensuring protection for the trees and open areas.

So what next ?

In 2014/5 a small group of residents visited every home  on the Highland Park Estate ( actually getting responses from 60%) to ask if you would be able to support the aim of protecting and preserving the environment of our estate for the enjoyment of all those who live here.  We would like to see these spaces available “…. for the passive recreation of those that live on the estate * and we would like to see the

Cllr Packer has been equally supportive in freely giving us his time, experience and expertise as well as representing our views at council meetings and with individuals within the authorities

Cllr David Packer

We have all benefited from the time given by numerous  residents  in visiting houses to explain the issues during the Spring and Summer of 2013 and on into 2014 - and in having meetings with the local authorities and with  Annette Brooke MP -  Additionally of course we have appreciated the support and time listening to the issues of the 140+ signatories to the original petition that was presented to the council in July 2013 showing that there was a focus of  concern over both general and specific deficiencies  with EDDC’s approach to protecting and preserving our spaces and trees  and in relating to the value of spaces and trees on the estate. This appeal did result in Cllr Jean Hazell asking that the environment committee might give time to review the council’s policy to open spaces in the area.

Numerous residents

Thank you to supporters without whom we would not have made the progress we have achieved so far.

The April 2013 Petition

The April 2013 Petition

A petition of over 100 signatories was presented to the EDDC in July 2013 as the result of the hard work of like-minded residents visiting homes on the estate to explain the situation with regard to our amenity spaces and their vulnerability. In the last few years open space has been enclosed, and trees vandalised and removed without any consideration for the fact that these areas and trees were incorporated into the plans for benefit of the community. It can easily be appreciated that houses are screened from others by established planting schemes  and are built at a variety of different angles and elevations  to reduce an ‘overlooked’ nature of the plots. It is not the aim to retain established planting schemes within private properties, - but the existing communal amenity screening should ideally be retained and protected.
